THERAPEUTIC DIETS
A therapeutic ketogenic diet is used for ketogenic diet therapy (also known as ketogenic metabolic therapy), and it may be prescribed on its own by a Physician or implemented by a Dietitian under a doctor’s oversight as an adjunct treatment for some physical and mental health disorders. A therapeutic ketogenic diet is different than “keto” for weight loss and improved metabolic health, and it is important to understand the difference before requesting services. For this reason, we recommend that you read this article: A Keto Diet and a Therapeutic Ketogenic Diet are Very Different.
I provide ketogenic diet therapy (ketogenic metabolic therapy) services, including a 3:1 and a 2:1 therapeutic ketogenic diet an adjunct treatment for physical and mental health.
3:1 Therapeutic Ketogenic Diet as an adjunct treatment in specific physical conditions (seizure disorder, specific cancers), as well as specific mental health conditions, under a doctor’s supervision.
A 2:1 therapeutic ketogenic diet may be implemented as adjunct therapy (along with medication) for specific mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety disorders, and some types of bipolar disorder. This type of diet may also be followed by those seeking overall improved mental health and who are not taking any prescription medications.
NOTE: If you are considering trialing a 2:1 Therapeutic Ketogenic Diet for mental health and are currently taking any prescription medications, the first step is to discuss this idea with your doctor. You can download the Medical Supervision of Patient Form for your doctor to complete and fax to the office before beginning services.
